Overview
The Greek Psalm 50 (51 in the Masoritic and Protestant traditions) is a penitential Psalm relating the experience of David when he was confronted by the prophet Nathan for his sins in dealing with Bathsheeba.

καὶ νικήσῃς ἐν τῷ κρίνεσθαί σε.
7 ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἐν ἀνομίαις συνελήμφθην,
καὶ ἐν ἁμαρτίαις ἐκίσσησέν με ἡ μήτηρ μου.
8 ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἀλήθειαν ἠγάπησας,
τὰ ἄδηλα καὶ τὰ κρύφια τῆς σοφίας σου ἐδήλωσάς μοι.
9 ῥαντιεῖς με ὑσσώπῳ, καὶ καθαρισθήσομαι·
πλυνεῖς με, καὶ ὑπὲρ χιόνα λευκανθήσομαι.
10 ἀκουτιεῖς με ἀγαλλίασιν καὶ εὐφροσύνην·
ἀγαλλιάσονται ὀστᾶ τεταπεινωμένα.
11 ἀπόστρεψον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν μου
καὶ πάσας τὰς ἀνομίας μου ἐξάλειψον.
12 καρδίαν καθαρὰν κτίσον ἐν ἐμοί, ὁ θεός,
καὶ πνεῦμα εὐθὲς ἐγκαίνισον ἐν τοῖς ἐγκάτοις μου.
13 μὴ ἀπορρίψῃς με ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου
καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιόν σου μὴ ἀντανέλῃς ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ.
14 ἀπόδος μοι τὴν ἀγαλλίασιν τοῦ σωτηρίου σου
καὶ πνεύματι ἡγεμονικῷ στήρισόν με.
15 διδάξω ἀνόμους τὰς ὁδούς σου,
καὶ ἀσεβεῖς ἐπὶ σὲ ἐπιστρέψουσιν.
16 ῥῦσαί με ἐξ αἱμάτων, ὁ θεὸς ὁ θεὸς τῆς σωτηρίας μου·
ἀγαλλιάσεται ἡ γλῶσσά μου τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου.
17 κύριε, τὰ χείλη μου ἀνοίξεις,
καὶ τὸ στόμα μου ἀναγγελεῖ τὴν αἴνεσίν σου.
18 ὅτι εἰ ἠθέλησας θυσίαν, ἔδωκα ἄν·
ὁλοκαυτώματα οὐκ εὐδοκήσεις.
19 θυσία τῷ θεῷ πνεῦμα συντετριμμένον,
καρδίαν συντετριμμένην καὶ τεταπεινωμένην ὁ θεὸς οὐκ ἐξουθενώσει.
20 ἀγάθυνον, κύριε, ἐν τῇ εὐδοκίᾳ σου τὴν Σιων,
καὶ οἰκοδομηθήτω τὰ τείχη Ιερουσαλημ·
21 τότε εὐδοκήσεις θυσίαν δικαιοσύνης,
ἀναφορὰν καὶ ὁλοκαυτώματα·
τότε ἀνοίσουσιν ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριόν σου μόσχους.

1. <<Εις τον πρωτον μουσικον. Ψαλμος του Δαβιδ, οτε ηλθε Ναθαν ο προφητης προς αυτον, αφου εισηλθε προς την Βηθσαβεε.>> Ελεησον με, ω Θεε, κατα το ελεος σου· κατα το πληθος των οικτιρμων σου εξαλειψον τα ανομηματα μου.
2. Πλυνον με μαλλον και μαλλον απο της ανομιας μου και απο της αμαρτιας μου καθαρισον με.
3. Διοτι τα ανομηματα μου εγω γνωριζω, και η αμαρτια μου ενωπιον μου ειναι διαπαντος.
4. Εις σε, εις σε μονον ημαρτον και το πονηρον ενωπιον σου επραξα· δια να δικαιωθης εν τοις λογοις σου και να ησαι αμεμπτος εις τας κρισεις σου.
5. Ιδου, συνεληφθην εν ανομια, και εν αμαρτια με εγεννησεν μητηρ μου.
6. Ιδου, ηγαπησας αληθειαν εν τη καρδια, και εις τα ενδομυχα θελεις με διδαξει σοφιαν.
7. Ραντισον με με υσσωπον, και θελω εισθαι καθαρος· πλυνον με, και θελω εισθαι λευκοτερος χιονος.
8. Καμε με να ακουσω αγαλλιασιν και ευφροσυνην, δια να ευφρανθωσι τα οστα, τα οποια συνεθλασας.
9. Αποστρεψον το προσωπον σου απο των αμαρτιων μου και πασας τας ανομιας μου εξαλειψον.
10. Καρδιαν καθαραν κτισον εν εμοι, Θεε· και πνευμα ευθες ανανεωσον εντος μου.
11. Μη με απορριψης απο του προσωπου σου· και το πνευμα το αγιον σου μη αφαιρεσης απ' εμου.
12. Αποδος μοι την αγαλλιασιν της σωτηριας σου και με πνευμα ηγεμονικον στηριξον με.
13. Θελω διδαξει εις τους παραβατας τας οδους σου· και αμαρτωλοι θελουσιν επιστρεφει εις σε.
14. Ελευθερωσον με απο αιματων, Θεε, Θεε της σωτηριας μου· η γλωσσα μου θελει ψαλλει εν αγαλλιασει την δικαιοσυνην σου.
15. Κυριε, ανοιξον τα χειλη μου· και το στομα μου θελει αναγγελλει την αινεσιν σου.

Vocabulary and Parsing Aids
Versification Issues
The chapter number of LXX Psalm 50 is different in the Greek and Latin than in the traditional Protestant English, Hebrew and Modern Greek texts which number this as Psalm 51. The reason is that the Greek counts Psalm 9 and 10 as a single psalm, which changes the numbering for Psalms beginning with Psalm 10. See the Wikipedia article on the Psalms for further information. The verse numbering is also different between the three versions for verse 1and 2, where the Protestant versions do not include the title or setting as verses 1 & 2. The Greek and Latin count the title/epithet as verse 1 and 2. The verse numbering for the rest of LXX Psalm 50(MT 51) differs by 2 in the two different numberings. The NETS translation shows both numberings.
Brenton and Mozley use the traditional Protestant chapter numbering Psalm 51.

For a list of Psalters see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psalter . Also look under the "Book of Hours" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_hours. Most of these medieval manuscripts are in Latin. I'm sure there must be some in Greek also. Many are on the Psalms of Degrees (119-133 in the Septuagint, also called Song of Ascents) or Penitential Psalms (6, 31, 37, 50, 101, 129, and 142 in the Septuagint numbering). The Psalms we are reading are Psalms 1, 8, 19(18), 21(22), 22(23), 23(24), 26(27), 31(32), 33(34), and 50(51).
The British Library has many images of the Psalms and Psalters. There are 73 images of pages of "Illuminated" Psalms and Prayer books. Finding images of a specific Psalm is not as easy as on would first think. There are many images of Psalm 1, Psalm 6, Psalm 51(50), and others, but not many for the Psalms we are reading. 2 When the prophet Nathan came to him, after he had gone into Bersabee.
3(1) Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your great mercy,
and according to the abundance of your
compassion
blot out my lawless deed.
4(2) Wash me thoroughly from my
lawlessness,
and from my sin cleanse me,
5(3) because my lawlessness I know
and my sin is ever before me.
6(4) Against you alone did I sin,
and what is evil before you I did,
so that you may be justified in your words
and be victorious when you go to law.
7(5) For, look, I was conceived in lawlessness,
and in sin did my mother crave for me.
8(6) For, look, you loved truth;
the unclear and secret aspects of your
wisdom you made clear to me.
9(7) You will sprinkle me with hyssop, and I
shall be cleansed;
you will wash me, and I shall be whiter
than snow.
10(8) You will make me hear joy and gladness;

51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression. 2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. 4 Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. 5 For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me.
